North Korea and Belarus signed an agreement on "friendship and cooperation" on Thursday.

It is not clear what the agreement will entail in detail, but Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasizes in a statement that the countries must cooperate "to protect their sovereignty."

In addition to supporting Russia's war against Ukraine - in which North Korean soldiers are participating - both countries are subject to Western sanctions and accused of human rights violations.
