The row comes after last week's approval of new, tougher rules for deportations, which the far right celebrated by shouting "send them back" in chorus in the plenary hall.
Al-Sahlani, who voted against the proposal, spoke afterwards and explained that she had never felt so unsafe in parliament before - something which in turn prompted Kristoffer Storm from the Danish Democrats to urge Iraqi-born Al-Sahlani "to go home".
Al-Sahlani's party group, the liberal RE, is now demanding action from Speaker Roberta Metsola.
