There is a lack of classroom readings of new novels in schools, the new nonprofit Läskvarten says. To remedy this, it is donating books to strengthen middle school students' reading skills.

The idea is for the children to read aloud to each other in pairs for 15 minutes a day.

Democratic renewal begins in the classroom and everyone must have the same conditions, says Malin Cumzelius, an initiator together with Camilla Nagler.

Funding comes from private donors and companies, and so far 6,500 books have been purchased for eleven schools in the Stockholm area. In the long term, the goal is to reach the entire country, according to Cumzelius, who describes the response as “incredible.”

Literature needs to be a fresh product. To build the joy of reading, you need to be able to reflect on yourself, she says.
