It is now 25 years since the Eritrean regime cracked down on all independent media in the country. One of the 12 arrested was journalist Dawit Isaak. Since then, the Eritrean authorities have not provided any information on the condition of those detained.
The letter, signed by 188 writers, calls for “immediate, verified proof of life for all arbitrarily detained Eritrean writers and critics,” The Guardian reports.
"Mr. President, Eritrea's future must be built with its brightest minds, not with repression. No writer or journalist should disappear for peacefully expressing their views," they write.
