Nobel laureate in literature Wole Soyinka says that the USA has withdrawn the visa he received last year, reports Reuters. To be allowed to visit the USA again, he has been urged to submit a new application.

Last summer, the US Embassy in Nigeria announced that Nigerians who want to travel to the US with the type of visa that Soyinka had will need to apply for a new type of visa that applies to each trip.

I have no visa, I am evidently banned from the US and if you want to meet me, you know where to find me, he says with reference to people who had planned to invite him to events in the US.

The Nigerian author, who is 91 years old, stated in 2016 that he had torn up his visa in protest against Donald Trump being elected president for the first time.

He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1986.
