27-year-old Noam Bettan will represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna in May, writes SVT's "Kulturnyheterna."

Singer-songwriter Bettan was selected in Israel's audition, the TV show "The Rising Star." However, which song he will compete with will not be decided until March.

Israel will compete in the first semi-final on May 12, the same semi-final as Sweden.

Israel's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest has sparked heated debate. When the list of participants was announced in December, it became clear that five countries would boycott this year's contest because Israel would be allowed to compete: Spain, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Iceland and Ireland. With the exception of Iceland, these countries will also not broadcast the contest.

The Eurovision Song Contest will be held from May 12–16 in Vienna, Austria.
