A 55-year-old woman died and two men were seriously injured.

The taxi driver who drove into the three people at Triangeln in central Malmö is suspected of gross negligence leading to another person's death, gross negligence leading to bodily harm, and gross negligence in traffic. Initial questioning has been held with the man, who is in his 50s.

There are a few more questionings to be held at the same time as technical investigation measures are being taken. We will examine surveillance films to get as clear a picture as possible, says prosecutor Charlotta Holmgren.

According to the police, there is nothing that suggests terrorist motives or terrorist connections in the investigation material that has been gathered.

In this situation, we do not know if this is about some kind of technical fault, some kind of handling error, some kind of illness – or could it be a deliberate act that occurred? There are a lot of different questions we still need answers to, says Malmö police spokesperson Nils Norling.

The suspected man denies any crime.

He is completely devastated and feeling very badly after the incident. What happened is a tragic traffic accident, says defense attorney Kristoffer Ståhl to Sydsvenskan.
