Tottenham was in the driver's seat ahead of the return match (1–0 in the first match) against Liverpool in the League Cup semi-final. Had they won, at least one Swede would have secured a title, after Alexander Isak's Newcastle had knocked out Arsenal the day before.
But it didn't turn out that way.
Liverpool turned the deficit around at home on Anfield and are thus clear for the final.
The home team came out at a furious pace and pressed Dejan Kulusevski and his Tottenham hard. And it paid off.
After just over half an hour, Cody Gakpo made it 1–0, after Mohamed Salah had delivered the assist.
But the Egyptian had no intention of stopping the point production there. In the second half, Salah completed the turnaround with a well-placed penalty, straight into the top corner. And thereafter, Tottenham had no answer. Rather the opposite.
The numbers ran away and the return match ended 4–0 to Liverpool, and 4–1 overall.
Lucas Bergvall, who scored Tottenham's goal in the first match, came on in the 57th minute.
The final will be played on March 16 at Wembley.
