During the night towards Sunday Swedish time, it became clear that 16 people had died in the explosion.
After the incident, it was feared that 18 people had lost their lives, but authorities could later confirm that two of these had not been on the site – and that they were therefore alive.
It is still unclear what caused the explosion.
Initially, it was supposed to have been impossible for rescue workers to enter the facility as several explosions followed each other.
Aerial photographs of the factory area, where they manufacture explosives for both military and civilian purposes, show a completely destroyed building with smoldering wreckage and scattered vehicle wrecks.
When the local police chief Chris Davis was asked on Friday to describe the building, he said there is nothing to describe.
It's gone.
