The repatriation grant is primarily for people who were granted a residence permit in Sweden for protection reasons before September 2024 and who want to move back to their country of origin. At the turn of the year, the grant was increased from SEK 10,000 per adult to SEK 350,000.
During January, 272 people applied for the grant, significantly more than in all of last year, DN reports.
All 82 applications processed so far have been rejected, mainly because the applicants had the wrong type of residence permit. Another common reason is that they had debts with the Enforcement Service or CSN. Around twenty cases have been rejected for that reason.
Among the applicants, the vast majority are from Syria.
