A number of former alpine stars and expert commentators have questioned Lindsey Vonn's decision to make a comeback as a 40-year-old after nearly six years of absence. The alpine legend has called the criticism "inappropriate and disrespectful" and believes she is being questioned solely because she is a woman.
Vonn was not satisfied with her 15th place in the downhill in Saalbach, Austria, but the American sees it as a step towards the Olympic Games in Milano Cortina in a year.
I have time on my side. I hope to be in a completely different place next year, says Vonn.
It's like jumping into a Formula 1 car without having trained. You have to make some adjustments and that's what I need to do to get everything to work as well as possible for me.
In 2019 in Åre, Vonn took bronze in the downhill, her eighth and most recent World Championship medal.
