However, four people were injured in a total of six shootings during the month, according to police statistics. By the end of May, a total of eight people had been shot dead since the beginning of the year, four of them in March.
January of this year was also free of fatal shootings. Before that, it had been almost eight years since an entire calendar month had passed without anyone being fatally shot (March 2018).
The total number of shootings this year has almost halved compared to the same period last year. 37 shootings have occurred between January and May, compared to 73 in 2025.
