Sweden, Finland and Norway have jointly announced that they will not host the Senior World Championships next year for financial reasons. Instead, they are proposing that the World Championships be held only every other year.
For this reason, the International Bandy Federation (FIB) has decided to cancel both the women's and men's World Championships in 2027.
"Under the current circumstances, where neither Russia nor Belarus are participating, we see a need for a more sustainable international arrangement," said the Swedish Bandy Association's Secretary General Daniel Andersson in a press release.
The World Cup tournaments have struggled in recent years because two major bandy nations, Russia and Belarus, have been suspended due to the Russian offensive war against Ukraine.
FIB has appointed a working group to investigate how often the World Championships should be held in the future.
