It was at 17.30 on Tuesday afternoon that the police received an alarm about a serious violent crime in Lunden in eastern Gothenburg. A few hours later, the police confirmed that two men had been found shot dead in a car.
The men – in their 30s – are identified and their relatives have been notified. The shooting is suspected by the police to be linked to the ongoing gang conflict in Biskopsgården.
Both are known to us from before and that makes us focus our work on this conflict, says Johan Sjöstrand, acting local police chief Storgöteborg Nordost.
In April this year, two men were shot dead in connection with a parking lot in Biskopsgården. Even that double murder is believed to have links to the conflict in the district.
"Atrocious act of violence"
There is a parking garage and a grocery store in the part of the residential area in Lunden that was cordoned off on Tuesday evening. In the vicinity, a football training session was also in progress, with about 150 children and coaches from the local football club Lunden ÖBK.
At the same time, it seems that no one heard any shots, reports Aftonbladet. How long the persons had been dead before they were discovered is currently unclear.
As far as I know, it is true that no one has reacted to shots or loud bangs. My picture is that you find two lifeless people, says Johan Sjöstrand.
The sequence of events is not yet clear. But we are working intensively to investigate these circumstances, he continues.
"Ready on site"
During the night until Wednesday, the police lifted their cordons in the area. At lunchtime, no one had yet been arrested for the shooting.
Despite this, the investigation situation is considered good and during the day, the police are working with door-to-door visits and gathering information.
We have a certain picture of the sequence of events. Then we have, among other things, seized the car and we have taken investigative measures throughout the evening and night, says Johan Sjöstrand.
