The punctuality of train traffic has not seen a better October since 2001, according to the Swedish Transport Administration. Just over 87 percent of trains arrived on time.

Those who arrived on time do not include those who were more than five minutes late, and according to the authority, over 96 percent of trains arrived within fifteen minutes.

"We see a positive trend. Of the ten months this year, punctuality is better for eight compared to the corresponding month last year. And we now have three months in a row with stable results," says department manager Thomas Andersson in a press release.

The highest punctuality, 100 percent, was achieved by long-distance trains on the Stockholm–Karlstad route.

Unauthorized persons on the tracks led to delays for 871 trains – which reduced punctuality by 0.8 percentage points.

According to the Swedish Transport Administration, a record was also broken in October for the highest number of passenger trains ever operated – 95,000.
