Nine out of ten debt collection claims do not go to the Swedish Enforcement Authority

"The fact that such a large proportion is settled voluntarily shows that many, the vast majority, want to do the right thing as soon as they can," says Fredrik Engström, chairman of Swedish Debt Collection, in a press release.

The proportion of completed cases that took more than three months to pay increased from 25 percent in 2023 to 29 percent in 2025.

Debts with collection agencies amounted to SEK 143.3 billion at the end of 2025, an increase of 13 percent compared to 2024, when debts totaled SEK 126.8 billion.

In 2025, 8.5 million new debt collection cases were registered, while 7.2 million cases were closed.
