At least four people have been killed and dozens have been injured in extensive Russian attacks on Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia during the night towards Sunday. Russia claims that military targets have been hit in the attacks which made the neighboring country Poland send up its fighter jets.

Air alarms sounded over Kyiv during the night and according to the local military leadership, Russia attacked with hundreds of drones and missiles.

According to Russia's defense department, the attacks were directed against Ukrainian military-industrial enterprises.

Ukrainian authorities state that at least four people were killed. One of the dead was a 12-year-old girl. At least 27 people are reported to have been injured in the attacks on Kyiv.

The Zaporizhzhia region was also attacked during the night and at least four people are reported to have been injured there.

"Russia carried out yet another massive air raid on Ukrainian cities while people were sleeping. Again, hundreds of drones and missiles destroyed residential buildings and caused civilian casualties", wrote Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha on X.

Poland announced on X that the country has sent up fighter jets in its airspace and put ground-based air defense systems on high alert in response to the Russian attacks on Ukraine.

The action was precautionary and aimed at securing Polish airspace and protecting citizens, stated the Polish defense forces.
