It started with a young girl posting a video on Tiktok with the message "guys should write texts like this more often to girls".
And then someone agreed with her and then it just took off, says Niklas Strömstedt and laughs.
When "Om" was released in 1990, it went straight to the top of both the Swedish singles chart and Svensktoppen. Niklas explains that he composed the melody on the tour bus on route 66 between Västerås and Malung.
I really liked it and wrote a text to it as soon as I got home. I've written almost 500 songs over the years and "Om" is the only one I've felt directly that it has something special, this one is going to be a hit.
Even on Spotify, Strömstedt is climbing and "Om" was the ninth most played song in Sweden on Tuesday. In Norway, it's at number 24.
The fact that a 35-year-old song suddenly gets a new life has amazed both him and his children, more at home in the Tiktok generation.
They're just as surprised as I am, but think it's really fun and are happy for my sake. I still think it's a very good song and it's quite timeless, but if you knew how this works, everyone would be doing it all the time, says Niklas Strömstedt, and adds:
It can be good to note that if you've written a song you like yourself, you should never give up - but it can take 35 years.
