When the New York Stock Exchange closed on Thursday, the Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq were all in the red. Japan's Nikkei 225 index is up 0.7 percent in Friday trading, while the broader Topix is down 0.1 percent.
Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Seoul are closed for the weekend on Friday.
