According to the survey, feelings of insecurity generally seem to be linked to specific places and limited periods of time.
Just over 16 percent of respondents feel quite or very unsafe when out alone at night in their residential areas.
However, there are large differences between municipalities. In Vaxholm, only 3 percent feel unsafe in their residential areas at night, compared with 5 percent in Ekerö and 6 percent on Gotland. At the same time, the figure is as high as 31 percent in Salem, 28 percent in Botkyrka and 27 percent in Södertälje.
The safety survey was conducted using mailed questionnaires and online surveys. Approximately 125,000 randomly selected people received the survey, and 46 percent responded.
