SJ's night train between Stockholm and Berlin was to be discontinued next year - but instead the German RDC will take over.

The private company RDC Deutschland, which supplied carriages and personnel for SJ's night trains, has announced that it will continue to operate the line.

"This connection is an important link in the European night train network - and we will continue to operate it," says the company's CEO Markus Hunkel in a press release .

Without the government support, however, flight frequency will decrease and only half of the departures are expected to remain, according to German media.

It was earlier in October that SJ announced that the night train line would be closed at the end of August 2026. This followed the government's proposal in the budget bill that the special allocation for night train traffic should cease.

On Thursday, it was also announced that German RDC, in collaboration with the Swiss train company SBB, will start a new night train connection from Malmö to Basel in Switzerland in April next year.
