Dozens of soldiers have been killed or captured since military units mutinied in Niger on Saturday, according to state television. The fighting reportedly lasted “a couple of hours in several places.”
Niger's junta says it has regained control. The AP news agency has not been able to confirm the information.
Armed uprisings and targeted protests have occurred repeatedly in the capital, Niamey. This year, there have been three attacks targeting the military regime that took power in a 2023 coup.
