It has been described as a "wrong-com" and by more negative critics as a comedy series that makes you feel disgusted. Nicola Walker plays Alice, who will stop at nothing to get revenge on her friend Steve.
She can't stop herself. She is driven to revenge because she is convinced she is right, Walker tells TT.
Alice is married and has a daughter, Izzy (Yali Topol Margalith), who is approaching 30. Her best friend, Steve (Jemaine Clement), is in his 50s. Alice and Steve had a romantic relationship a long time ago, but are now best friends.
But when Izzy and Steve end up in bed together one night and this leads to a full-blown relationship, Alice goes crazy with anger. She does everything she can to sabotage the relationship - which quickly leads to Steve starting to counterattack.
Destroys his life
Alice is driven to the point where she begins to destroy her own life and the relationships with people she loves, notes Nicola Walker.
Because she has a stubborn and almost religious belief that she is absolutely right and that the only right thing is revenge. And we all know that it doesn't work out. Revenge destroys you. I can understand how Alice reacts. That doesn't mean I condone it, but it is understandable.
Enjoying the situation
At the same time, Walker believes that Alice is somewhat enjoying the situation.
She thinks that since she didn't start it, she's morally right. And Steve's revenge is motivated by the fact that he wants Alice to stop and he can't think of any other way to stop her.
Is "Alice and Steve" a pure comedy series or a comedy-drama?
There's a lot of drama in it, but always with a dash of comedy. It's a good thing it can't really be defined by a single genre.
Love to "binge-watch"
The series consists of six episodes, each under thirty minutes long. Nicola Walker says she appreciates that format for a television series.
I love binge-watching TV shows, being able to watch an entire series in one or two nights if I can't sleep. It's wonderful.
The series ends in a way that could allow a second season; there is a lot unresolved after the last episode.
We all hope for a sequel; it depends not least on how many people are watching now. But if there is no TV sequel, I would love to read a book about what happens, says Nicola Walker.
