A quarter of the current century, and the world's best hockey league, NHL, chooses to look back on what has been and pay tribute to some of the very best players in the league over the past 25 years.
In the first team, with players who debuted before the year 2000, are legends Joe Sakic, Jarome Iginla, Teemu Selänne, Joe Thornton, Zdeno Chara.
But also Swede Nicklas Lidström.
"He was one of the few players in the league who could make the game look easy at this level. It's when you know it's about a superstar and Hall of Fame player, when they can play against the best of the best and still make it look easy", says Lidström's former teammate in Detroit, Chris Osgood, to NHL's website.
Nicklas Lidström won four Stanley Cup titles during his career, all with Detroit where he spent all 20 years in NHL – and took home the "Norris Trophy" seven times, which is awarded to the league's best defenseman. In total, it became 1,325 points in 1,827 matches in NHL.
In 2015, the defenseman was also elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
