Nicklas Bäckström Returns Home, Unlikely to Play for Brynäs

Nicklas Bäckström is moving home after the season. But it will hardly be any comeback in Brynäs, according to his dad. I don't think there will be any games for him, says Anders Bäckström to Gefle Dagblad.

The 37-year-old star has not played with his Washington Capitals since October 2023.

An injury in the hip has stopped play for the star who has made 18 seasons in NHL, all with Washington, and became Stanley Cup champion in 2018.

Bäckström has also taken two World Championship golds and one Olympic silver with Tre Kronor.

There have been rumors several times that Bäckström would return to Brynäs and himself has never closed any door.

For the successful club, which won SHL's regular season as a newcomer, the center star would be the ultimate dream acquisition.

Anders Bäckström tells Gefle Dagblad that it is clear that his son with family is moving home this summer when the contract with Washington expires.

But he is doubtful that Nicklas Bäckström would lace up his skates and make a comeback in Brynäs.

It is completely clear that he and the family are coming home after this season. But there will be no more play. I find it hard to believe, says Anders Bäckström.
