Wearing brown prison garb and with a shaved head, Nick Reiner entered a packed Los Angeles courtroom on Monday. Through his lawyer, Reiner pleaded not guilty to the murder of his parents, who prosecutors say were stabbed to death.
The indictment hearing against Reiner was supposed to have taken place in January, but was postponed after his lawyer withdrew and Reiner asked to be represented by a public defender.
Nick Reiner, the youngest of the couple's four children, was arrested in December last year, just hours after his parents were found dead in their home. He has been in custody ever since.
If convicted of the murders, Reiner faces life in prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty.
