The artist Nick Cave is awarded the French Arts et Lettres-order.
The order is given to those who "have significantly contributed to enriching the French cultural heritage", and Nick Cave received the honorary award on site in the French city of Arles, where he was for a gig during his European tour. There he also received the city medal of Arles at the same time, according to Billboard.
In his speech, Cave highlighted poets such as Rimbaud and Baudelaire, and the importance of French culture for his creation.
Another Australian musician who has been awarded for his contribution to French culture is Tina Arena.
