The American traffic safety authority NHTSA has initiated an investigation regarding 174,000 Tesla cars due to broken electronic door handles. Initially, it concerns Model Y cars from 2021 but the investigation may be extended, according to NHTSA.
The background is that the news agency Bloomberg has reported on several cases where people have been injured or killed in connection with not being able to open the car doors due to insufficient voltage from the electric cars. It is also said to have been about cases where parents have not been able to take out their children who have been locked in the cars and where parents in some cases have been forced to smash one of the windows.
