The legendary NHL goalkeeper Ed Giacomin has passed away, 86 years old.
The Canadian played in New York Rangers between 1965 and 1976 and then ended his career in Detroit.
Giacomin won the Vezina Trophy, the prize that goes to the NHL's best goalkeeper, was elected into the Hall of Fame in 1987 and his jersey number 1 hangs in the ceiling in Madison Square Garden.
New York Rangers writes in a statement that Ed Giacomin personified what it meant to play for the club and adds: "It is not possible to discuss the history of this organization without immediately thinking of 'Eddie'".
Giacomin passed away during Sunday.
