”We are getting one of the country's most experienced goalkeepers with many years of playing abroad at a really high level”, says Niklas Wikegård, sports manager in Djurgården, on the club's website.

Hellberg left Sweden and Frölunda in 2012 and has belonged to clubs in among others NHL and KHL for the past 13 years. The 34-year-old comes most recently from the Dallas Stars organization.

”I am incredibly proud and happy to get to represent Djurgården for the next three seasons. Both me and my family look forward to becoming a part of the Djurgården family after 13 seasons abroad”, says Hellberg.

The goalkeeper has also made several appearances in Tre Kronor, and has participated in two Olympic Games and two World Championships – one of which was when Sweden won the World Championship gold in Copenhagen in 2018.

”Magnus will be an extremely important cog for us to get home. He is a goalkeeper that we feel safe with and who upgrades us”, says Wikegård.

Djurgården returns to SHL next season after winning against AIK in the hockeyallsvenska final this spring.
