Over the weekend, the draft was held in the American football league, NFL, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The annual opportunity for the league's 32 teams to recruit talents expected to have promising careers.
During the event, which took place over several days, it was revealed that quarterback Shedeur Sanders from Colorado had received a phone call saying he had been drafted by New Orleans Saints. However, it was not true, as the call was a prank.
The 21-year-old son of Atlanta's coach Jeff Ulbrich had obtained Shedeur Sanders' phone number via a tablet at home. On Friday evening local time, the number was used for a prank call when a friend of the son, Jax Ulbrich, called Sanders, posing as Saints manager Mickey Loomis and saying he had been drafted.
That's what it is. But I think, of course, it's childish. But we all do childish things now and then, said Shedeur Sanders on Saturday, after being drafted by Cleveland Browns in the fifth round as the 144th player overall.
Both Jax Ulbrich and Atlanta Falcons apologized on Sunday.
"Shedeur, what I did is completely unforgivable, embarrassing, and shameful", wrote Jax Ulbrich on social media.
"We will review our routines and update them as needed to prevent an incident like this from happening again", said the Falcons in a statement.
