Liverpool's Darwin Núñez is one of five Uruguayan national team stars who are suspended after getting into a fight with opposing fans after the Copa América semifinal against Colombia in July.
Núñez is the one punished the hardest by the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), he is suspended for five matches. He is also forced to pay a fine of over 200,000 kronor. Tottenham's Rodrigo Bentancur is suspended for four national team matches and receives a fine of 160,000 kronor, while José María Giménez, Mathias Oliveira, and Ronald Araújo are each suspended for three matches and receive fines of around 120,000 kronor.
Colombia won the match, which was played in American Charlotte, with 1–0. After the final whistle, several Uruguayan players climbed up into the stands and began arguing with Colombian supporters.
An additional seven other players in Uruguay are fined around 50,000 kronor.
