Cuba has one of the world's most closed media landscapes. Henry Constantin, editor of La Hora de Cuba, describes how he and his colleagues are often deprived of their freedom.
"The day may start normally, but I barely have time to go out into the street before a police patrol arrests me," he says in a press release.
Netgazeti is one of the few media outlets in Georgia that are still independent. Co-founder Mzia Amaglobeti is currently in prison.
Now the two will be awarded the Human Rights Defender of the Year 2026 award for “outstanding resilience” and defense of free and independent journalism. The award will be presented in Stockholm on May 18.
