Liverpool have been clear champions for a long time, and Arsenal secured second place not long after.
There was no question about which teams would be relegated from the Premier League (Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton).
However, there was great drama surrounding which teams would play in the Champions League, and which teams would have to settle for the Europa League and the Conference League.
We now know.
Manchester City, Chelsea, and Newcastle will play in the Champions League next season.
Both City and Chelsea won their matches in the final round – 2–0 against Fulham and 1–0 against Nottingham Forest, respectively.
Newcastle unexpectedly lost at home to Everton with 0–1.
But thanks to Aston Villa losing their match against Manchester United with 0–2, Alexander Isak's team secured a Champions League spot on goal difference.
Aston Villa's goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez was sent off at 0–0, and Robin Olsen had to step in between the posts. The Swede let in two goals, and both the loss and the Europa League spot were a fact for Villa.
Anthony Elanga's Nottingham Forest has surprised everyone by being a top team this season. But the sensation team didn't make it all the way and will play in the Conference League next season.
