A woman was sentenced on Tuesday in New Zealand in a widely publicized case for having murdered her two children and then put them in suitcases.

The two children were found in the suitcases in 2022, after a family bought the suitcases at an auction with abandoned items from rented storage rooms. An autopsy soon revealed that the children, a girl and a boy, had died as early as 2018.

The now convicted woman left New Zealand for her home country South Korea after the crimes were committed, but was extradited to New Zealand in 2022 after a request from the police.

The mother has confessed to the murders of her children, who were then six and eight years old, and is sentenced to life imprisonment.
