New York has taken home its first title in the American professional basketball league WNBA.

Minnesota was defeated with 67–62 in overtime in the fifth final match.

New York Liberty, which has been part of the league since its founding in 1996, has reached the final five times before but never won the title.

An incredible feeling. I can't help but want to continue celebrating with the city. It's going to be crazy, said New York star Breanna Stewart after the win.

Jonquel Jones, who scored 17 points in the decisive final match, was named the WNBA final's most valuable player.
