When President Trump returned home from the NATO summit in Ankara this week, he travelled on an older Air Force One plane, not the donated aircraft from Qatar that he had arrived on.
According to The New York Times, which cited sources close to the president, the switch was due to safety deficiencies in the new plane.
The White House denied the information and on Friday the reporters were sued.
"The fact that federal agents are showing up on the doorsteps of news reporters should shock all Americans who believe in the Constitution and the freedom of the press it protects," the newspaper's lawyer David McCraw wrote in a statement.
