On Wednesday, after the New York Stock Exchange closed, Microsoft beat market expectations when it reported its interim results. On Thursday, the software giant drove a major rally, with the stock surging 15.5 percent.
The rise represents a $450 billion increase in market capitalisation and is historically large. No company on Wall Street has risen by that much in a single trading day. AI giant Nvidia recorded an increase of $440 billion in April last year.
The three leading indexes on Wall Street rose on Thursday. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index closed up 2.8 percent, the broad-based S&P 500 Index was up 1.7 percent and the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 1.2 percent.
