The art school plans to donate the equivalent of approximately 625,000 kronor linked to Epstein to a nonprofit organization that works to support victims of human trafficking.
In an email to current and former students, the board acknowledges that there have been "serious failures of judgment and governance" regarding contact with Epstein since his crimes became known. It will now review its guidelines on donations and relationships with funders.
Epstein served on the board of the New York Academy of Art in the early 1990s and participated in the school's fundraising events for several years. Documents indicate that some contact continued even after he was investigated in Florida for sexual abuse of minors.
