The courses rose on a broad front on the stock exchanges in the USA after Thursday's message that the country is on its way to sign a trade agreement with the United Kingdom. The market hopes that the agreement will lead to lower tariffs and fewer trade barriers.

The broad S&P 500 index and the Dow Jones industrial index both lifted 0.6 per cent, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index increased 1.1 per cent.

Among the winners was the electric car manufacturer Tesla, up 3.1 per cent, but the share has fallen almost 25 per cent since the turn of the year.
