On Friday, von Essen took second place in the grand prix dressage at the Gothenburg Horse Show.

In the freestyle program, kür, on Saturday, the Swede followed up the fine placement by again finishing second together with the horse Invoice.

The pair scored 82,495 percent – a new personal best – despite a few small mistakes at the beginning of the program, but with a strong finish.

It's obviously incredibly fun to beat my personal best on home turf in front of this audience, it feels amazing. You have to pinch yourself, says von Essen to SVT.

Catherine Laudrup-Dufour, Denmark, won both the kür and Friday's grand prix.

Two more Swedes got to start in the kür. Mads Hendeliowitz finished twelfth, and Carl Hedin landed one place behind.
