It will be a snowy day in large parts of southern Sweden. SMHI has issued a new warning in central parts of Svealand – and there may be more. It is important to be careful and not go out without having changed to winter tires, says meteorologist Viktor Bergman.

There have already been yellow warnings for parts of Västra Götaland, affecting the West Coast and Skaraborg – and on Wednesday morning the first snowflakes fell.

There is a patch of snow flurries moving in during the day. Locally there could be five to ten centimeters of snow, says Viktor Bergman.

In Gothenburg, the snowfall caused problems in morning traffic, reports Göteborgs-Posten .

Some hills have been hit hard, such as Kallebäcksbacken. There are several heavier vehicles standing still and there are long queues, says Antonius Gibson Knevel, at the traffic control center, to the newspaper.

“It’s worth watching out for”

During the first half of Wednesday, there may also be heavy snow falling over an area stretching across Örebro, Eskilstuna, Västerås and Sala towards Tierp in Uppland. This may cause traffic problems due to slippery roads and poor visibility.

That could then move on and affect the coast in Gästrikland and Hälsingland, where large quantities could also arrive. We'll see how the forecasts develop, but it could be a warning.

From this evening, there is a warning of snowfall that can occasionally be heavy in inner southern Götaland. The warning affects an area around Växjö, but also extends into Halland and northern Skåne.

For most of these areas, it's the first snowfall of the year. It's important to be careful and not go out without having changed to winter tires, says Viktor Bergman.

Wind can cause problems

SMHI warns that it may be difficult to get around in traffic due to snow on the roads, traffic accidents or stationary vehicles. It is also important to watch out for traffic on Thursday.

It's going to be quite windy tomorrow. Then this snow will be able to swirl a bit, maybe there will be snow drifts or poor visibility in connection with the snowfall as well, says Viktor Bergman.
