In total, it's about 432 new places that should be able to start being used no later than January 2030. At the same time, there are plans for further expansion in Halltorp.

One will directly want to build a few hundred places more on this existing property, says Strömmer.

The new message about building on more places is an expression of an ambition from the government to maximize building where we have the opportunity.

The government has decided that the Prison and Probation Service will be able to enter into rental agreements for the new prison in Halltorp, as well as for the new detention center in Kalmar which began being built last autumn, and an expansion of the prison Kristianstad Vä with 200 places.

Overall, the government's decision means a go-ahead for over 700 prison and detention places.
