Mikaela Shiffrin's Olympic setbacks continue. Fourth place in the team event meant the alpine star's seventh consecutive Olympic competition without a medal.

Mikaela Shiffrin and Breezy Johnson were the favorites to take home the gold in the team event. Johnson also did her job and was fastest in the downhill section.

When Shiffrin was expected to secure gold in the slalom, she instead lost the U.S. lead and finished fourth, behind the American second team of Jacqueline Wiles and Paula Moltzan.

"I'm careful about making excuses, but I've been preparing for the slalom all year. There's something to learn from today and I'll do that," Shiffrin said.

Shiffrin won two golds and a silver in her first two Winter Olympics, but at Beijing four years ago she left without a medal. The team event was won by Austria's second team.
