Grundström's NHL season ended recently when Carolina won the quarterfinal series 4–0. But the 28-year-old is hungry for more hockey and has therefore agreed to play in the World Cup with Tre Kronor, the national team said on social media.
With Grundström joining the Swedish squad, one player had to leave. This means that Luleå's Isac Hedqvist was sent home.
Sweden begins the World Cup in Switzerland with a match against Canada on Friday.
