The great J.R.R. Tolkien fan Stephen Colbert is basing his script on six chapters from "The Lord of the Rings" that were not included when the book was adapted into a film by Peter Jackson 25 years ago.
"Maybe there's a story there that fits into the larger story," Colbert says in a
with Jackson, which Warner Bros. posted to present the project.
Colbert is writing the film with his son and with writer Philippa Boyens.
Stephen Colbert's talk show will be canceled in May after eleven years on television. In addition to Colbert's film, Andy Serkis's "The Hunt for Gollum" will premiere in 2027.
