On Saturday, Israel urged civilians to leave 20 areas, including the city of Nabatieh, and a short time later began bombing the area.
The NNA news agency reports explosions in villages around Nabatieh, among other places.
The targets are believed to be linked to the Iran-allied Hezbollah militia. Violence in Lebanon has repeatedly hampered Iran-US peace talks.
