Three people have been killed and several injured in Israeli attacks in Lebanon on Saturday, Lebanese authorities said.

Among the dead are two brothers whose car was hit in an attack on Mount Hermon in southeastern Lebanon, the country's state news agency reports.

Israel confirms that it has carried out an attack in the area and claims that it targeted two arms smugglers with links to Hezbollah.

Another person was killed and four others were wounded in another attack on a car in the village of Baraashit in southern Lebanon, according to the country's health ministry. A third attack, in the town of Bint Jbeil, injured seven people.

Israel has continued to regularly attack Lebanon despite the ceasefire that exists on paper between Israel and the Lebanese militia Hezbollah. This has drawn international criticism, most recently from the EU.

"All parties must focus on maintaining the ceasefire and the progress achieved so far," said European Commission Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Anouar El Anouni in a statement on Saturday.
