Austin is alive. We know that as a fact. That's what Nizar Zakka, spokesperson for Hostage Aid Worldwide (HAW), says, who has followed the case of the missing US journalist Austin Tice in Syria.

Austin Tice was kidnapped in 2012, thus early in the Syrian civil war. Since then, his fate has been unknown.

When dictator Bashar al-Assad's regime fell earlier in December, new hopes were awakened. At a live press conference, HAW now says that they have been able to track where Tice was held captive by the regime until at least the beginning of 2024.

The Tice case was one of the first issues that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken brought up with Syria's new rulers when he made contact with them on December 14.
