Zara Larsson performed her hit song "Midnight Sun" at the gala held before the more glamorous television broadcast of what is usually called the music world's biggest party.
The Swede got her big break in North America this winter after opening for Tate McRae on his major tour. In addition, her ten-year-old song “Lush Life” has gone viral after people around the world tried to copy the song’s choreography on social media.
Gaga took the award
Zara Larsson was also nominated for an award for "Midnight Sun", but early in the awards ceremony she lost - Lady Gaga received the award in the category of best dance pop.
"It wasn't meant to happen, but I figure I'll get it some other time," Zara Larsson tells Billboard.
From Linköping
Instead, it was Ludwig Göransson who was given the task of holding the Swedish flag high. The Linköping native has already been praised for the music from the film “Sinners” and at the Grammy Awards he was awarded two statuettes - for best music from a film or television series and for best compilation album for a film or television series.
Göransson is the film world's hottest composer at the moment and has in recent years collaborated with his old schoolmate Ryan Coogler on "Sinners" and the two "Black Panther" films, as well as with Christopher Nolan on the blockbuster "Oppenheimer".
In his acceptance speech, Ludwig Göransson spoke about the collaboration with his wife Serena. The versatile Swede has been praised for his success in fusing modern music with blues influences from the Delta for Ryan Coogler's film, which is set in the American South 100 years ago.
"Serena Göransson and I worked in New Orleans for three months on this," Göransson said from the stage.
Göransson has now won six American Grammy Awards in his career. Later this spring, he could take home two Oscars for the music from “Sinners” to add to the two he has won previously.
